Are firm pillowtop mattresses good for back pain?
Question by : Are firm pillowtop mattresses good for back pain?
Best answer:
Answer by Sullivan
For back pain you’re going to want something firm so that your body doesn’t sink and you’re going to want something supportive to relieve stress caused by pressure points.
Pillow top mattresses are comfortable but they break down quickly over time and they have a habit of sagging and losing their shape after a few months of use. They’re really not the best for pain.
If you want something supportive, comfortable, and firm, you should check out memory foam.
Memory foam has been used for over 20 years to help people with conditions just like yours. It was initially developed by NASA to cushion pilots seats and was redeveloped for commercial use a short time afterwards. Memory foam is really the way to go for pain!

What are some good exercises for strengthening my back?
Question by blitzcrackunders: What are some good exercises for strengthening my back?
I’ve always had a bit of back pain, and I figure I’m tired of it, so I want to start some exercises for my back. I have access to several gyms at my university, but I would prefer exercises that I could do every day, or twice a day, at home. So, pilates/yoga type stuff would work well. I don’t have any dumbbells.
Exercises, not stretches.

Hang from a bar and relax your spine while you are hanging.
There’s no better way once you know how to do it.

Q&A: What are some good exercises for your back?
Question by ~Tim~: What are some good exercises for your back?
Lately I’ve been experiencing back pain. (I’m 17, 6’4″, male) I’m on my feet a lot at work, and I’m pretty flatfooted, though I always use shoes with good support. I’ve been doing pushups and curl ups in the morning, evening, and just as I can. Are there any other exercises, practiced, or routines that can help decrease back pain and improve posture? My posture used to be pretty bad but has since improved. However it still needs work because I’m still slightly hunched. Any advice?

Q&A: I am having severe upper back pain I was just wondering what are good treatments for this type of pain?
Question by star: I am having severe upper back pain I was just wondering what are good treatments for this type of pain?
I am a 23 yr old female, around 125 lbs 5’8″ . The pain seems to be the worst in the evenings as I lay down it is so intense for the first 5-15 min, If I have my husband massage it with pain relieving gel the pain sometimes radiates to my ribs (I am pretty sure I don’t have a heart problem, I have had two children just fine w/o any complications, regular births w/ epidurial for the pain)
I just want something more effective then taking ibuprofen all of the time and having pain cream on my back I need something more permanent to help the pain. It gets so bad that I feel dizzy almost if I don’t lay down.. also whats the BEST POSITION TO SLEEP IN for this PAIN????
thank you anything will help

more than 90% of all back pain is psychosomatic.
I know that sucks to hear because the pain is very real.
But, think of it as good news, because that means there is no physical reason for your pain.

Q&A: looking for good mattress, to help with back pain.wanting to buy new, any suggestions?

If you have back pain a mattress may help but it never takes care of what is causing the pain and that would be pinched muscles. If you want relief from that you can release the muscles and once that is done it won’t matter what you sleep on the pain won’t be there. Here is how you can release those muscles to get rid of your back pain:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.

Try some “hot and cold” medicated cream that you buy at Walmart or and local store. It helped for me. Just rub it on and relax.
